How to care for your Landscape curbing

CURING:

Your edging will be dry to the touch within 3 hours. At this point it can withstand rain. Your edging can be damaged if you bump it within the first 72 hours. Please take care to make sure pets, children, and guests do not step on your edging. If your edging is damaged by rain, we will repair it at our cost within 30 days. If your edging is damaged otherwise, it will be repaired at a minimum charge of $350.00. Concrete is considered fully cured after 30 days.

STAINING OR SEALING:

Your curbing has been sealed with a “Same Day” sealer, UV CurbCureTM 350, this offers excellent protection from the weather short term as well as the sealer protects the colored concrete for up to 2 years. We recommend that you have us reseal your edging every 18 months. DO NOT apply sealers that are sold at retail stores as it may adversely affect the properties of your colored concrete curb beyond repair.

PREVENT DAMAGE:

Your concrete edging will give you years of enjoyment with little care. It is important to understand that while extremely durable, your edging is not indestructible. Pushing a wheelbarrow full of stone over your edging may cause it to crack. Running over your edging with a car or a truck could cause it to crack. Warn your landscaper not to scrape the deck of his mower on the side of your edging. It will leave unsightly scratches that diminish the beauty of your edging. A string trimmer should be used to trim the grass around your edging. Over time tree roots may lift and break your edging. We put more control joints closer together in areas where trees are a factor. We do this so that any cracking should occur at the control joints as tree roots lift the edging. This allows you to lift the section out and remove or shave the tree roots back down with a chainsaw or hatchet and replace the section.

EFFLORESCENCE OR COLOR FADING

We seal your curbing with a specially formulated UV CurbCureTM 350 sealer. This immediately provides protection for your edging. Sealing is especially important when using colored concrete. Calcium carbonate deposits can form on the surface of the edging due to a natural reaction between carbon dioxide and the free lime in a cement often referred to as efflorescence. As a result, colored edging may appear faded. Using our UVCurbCure 350 sealer and a special additive in the concrete called ColorGuard+ almost all efflorescence is avoided. The sealed curbing will appear somewhat glossy but will settle down to a more matte finish. All efflorescence will have dissipated by the conclusion of the 30-day curing period.

CLEANING

Our UV CurbCure 350 seals the surface sufficiently to deter most algae and mold growth. If mold and/or mildew does appear anywhere on your edging it can be removed with a strong bleach and water solution to kill the mold/mildew spores. Wait 24 hours then wash off with a spray nozzle attached to your hose. Pressure washing your edging is not recommended as it can seriously damage the surface of your curb. If more than 18 months has elapsed since your curb was sealed you should call CurbScapes at 585-794-1879 to order a re-seal of your edging to help prevent recurring growth. It closes the pores of the concrete giving mold and/or mildew nothing to hold onto. Resealing your concrete curbing is essential to preserving the integrity and appearance of its color. Failure to reseal concrete curbing will result in fading and loss of color.
